Who is PaintMinion?

I'm Susan Wachowski and have won numerous online and local awards. Among the more notable: 2 Golds from Gen Con 1998, a Bronze from Chicago Games Day Golden Demons, 2009 Iron Painter Season 6 winner on the Wyrd website, and recently a Gold Medal amongst the many Silvers at MMSI Chicago. I paint all sorts of stuff: miniatures of all sizes, resin statues, busts, toys, wedding toppers, and once I even painted a model race car. It was...interesting. I'm open to all genres, including getting into more historical work. More of my pictures can be seen on CMON.

You'll find my work on the box covers of the Dark Sword Miniatures Elmore Dragons and their convention booth, on the Thunderbolt Mountain site and convention booth, as well as on Reaper Miniatures website and warehouse. I sell on eBay occasionally, and do commission work from all over the globe. I enter only a few contests these days. My big show is MMSI Chicago in October, both as Exhibitor, selling my work and judging. I also try to do something for the Privateer Press competition at Gen Con, and participate in Iron Painter on the Wyrd Miniatures website.

I was the Gen Con Indy Miniatures Hobby Events (MHE) Coordinator for many years, but have stepped back now because of health and family issues. I still run the Competition and Aces Charity Speed Paint for MHE, as well as help however I can. I also teach a couple classes and have some of my work up for Exhibition Only. I'm happy to meet folks and chat at Gen Con and you'll still find me generally hanging out at the Competition Table, and Aces on Friday night at 6:30.

I am the Chief of IMMPS (Illinois Miniature and Model Painters Society) which gathers almost every Friday in the Chicago suburbs. It's a friendly group of people getting together to paint and chat and share. Space is limited so let me know you want to join us--check out IMMPS on Yahoo Groups.

You can find "PaintMinion" on eBay, CMON, TMP, Chest of Colors, Wyrd Forums, Reaper Forums, Privateer Press Forums, some Yahoo Groups, Facebook, and Pay Pal.

In the past couple years I've overcome cancer, bought our first home, gone back to work at a part time job, and added an extra kitten, Comet Cat, to the family of Sue, Art, Cassie, and Crystal Cat.

I have dealt with Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma and am now in remission over a year. Anyone else facing cancer, and in need of advice or a friendly ear, please feel free to contact me and I'm happy to help all I can.

General Advice: Always wear a professional mask when spraying, don't lick your brushes in any manner, and if you have paints older than 5 years, please consider getting rid of them and starting with new ones that are much better for you.

IMMPS

The IMMPS (Illinois Midwest MIni Painter Society) is a group of friends that gather and paint every Friday possible. We cover the Chicagoland suburbs, and even have a few members further away. It is a private group, so we need to know you a bit before we invite you over to the house for Friday Paint Gathers. At meetings we are frequently in The Zone, discussing minis and paints, sharing techniques, offering advice, giving crits, and deciding what the heck we want for dinner. We have a private Yahoo Group where we organize who's coming, who needs rides, what we're bringing, and what we're eating. If you're interested and local, contact me for further information.

Who are the IMMPS?

Susan Wachowski, IMMPS Chief

Noel Meyer, aka skya

Noel Meyer took her first art class in grade school, and has been involved in art of one form or another ever since. She is a professional illustration artist, and has been painting miniatures since 1998, when Ken Carpenter of AEG commissioned her to do army demo figures after seeing the first miniature Noel ever painted. She has been improving steadily ever since.

A couple years ago, Noel was introduced to the Illinois/Midwest Mini Painting Society (IMMPS), where she had the opportunity to learn more advanced mini-painting techniques from the likes of Jen Hailey, Sue Wachowski and Anne Forester. Since then, she has become a truly competitive painter, and has won several awards, including a gold at the well-known Chicago Golden Demon contest run yearly by Games Workshop.

Examples of Noel's work can be seen at her website, http://skya.shadowdragon.net/.
